TCMA - GIZ Advance Low-Carbon Methanol Feasibility Study toward Investment Readiness in Thailand

  Khun Surachai Vangrattanachai, Chair of Working Committee TCMA on Innovation, Technology and CCU Platform, Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA), led the TCMA team in a technical meeting to review the low-carbon methanol feasibility study, presented by Arthur D. Little, highlighting its potential as a key solution for industrial decarbonization in Thailand, with Saraburi identified as a pilot area. The study also underscores pathways toward investment readiness, supporting future pilot implementation and scaling opportunities. The initiative forms part of ongoing technical cooperation between TCMA and GIZ through the Thai-German Cooperation on Energy, Mobility and Climate (TGC EMC) under the City Lab framework, aiming to support scalable emissions reduction, strengthen cross-sector collaboration, and contribute to Thailand’s low-carbon transition pathway.

TCMA Joins Key Stakeholders to Drive Practical Use of Thailand Taxonomy

Khun Monwikan Kajohnboon, Chair of Working Committee TCMA on Carbon Policy and Net Zero Governance of Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA), together with the team, participated in a multi-stakeholder consultation to provide inputs on the draft DNSH/MSS compliance checklist under Thailand Taxonomy. The engagement aims to support the financial sector in effectively applying the taxonomy in practice, particularly in assessing Do No Significant Harm (DNSH) and Minimum Social Safeguards (MSS). Convened in collaboration with Department of Climate Change and Environment, Bank of Thailand, Securities and Exchange Commission, and Stock Exchange of Thailand, the discussion reflects strong public–private coordination to operationalize sustainable finance frameworks and accelerate Thailand’s transition toward a low-carbon economy.

Mobile Carbon Capture Handover Marks New Milestone for Thailand’s Cement Decarbonization

Dr. Chana Poomee, Honourary Chairman of Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA), and Ms. Richelle Bourgoin, Deputy Minister of Trade and Export Development of Saskatchewan, Canada, jointly marked the handover and first deployment of a Mobile Carbon Capture Unit (MCCU) at a cement plant in Saraburi Province. Joined by representatives from UNIDO, the Embassy of Canada, the Deputy Governor of Saraburi Province, the Department of Climate Change and Environment, the Department of Industrial Works, and TCMA member companies, the event underscored strong Thailand–Canada collaboration under the “Decarbonization of the Cement and Concrete Sectors in Thailand” project. The MCCU will be used to evaluate the technology ahead of industrial-scale deployment, accelerating the transition to Net Zero and strengthening long-term competitiveness.
