Second Meeting in 2018 of TCMA-Working Committee on Mining and Natural Resources

May 25, 2018: TCMA members’ representatives attended the 2/2018 TCMA-Working Committee on Mining and Natural Resources, chaired by Khun Tinnakorn Kokkhour. The meeting still concentrated on an update situation of mining legislation “Mineral Act B.E. 2560” and intensified work to ensure government to resolve the situation soonest.

Working with Partners to Resolve Matters Arising from the Change of Mining Legislation

May 7, 2018: Khun Siva Mahasandana, Chair of Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) led TCMA’s members participate in the preparatory meeting among businesses affected from Mineral Act B.E. 2560, hosted by Mining Industry Council, with aiming at aligning the action strategies to determine the appropriate discussion design for the next round meeting with high level policy of government authorities concerned. TCMA expressed its concerned with respect to the Act and raised the business difficulty due to the very delay in issuance of mining concession which will lead to cement shortage supply for country infrastructure projects.

Minister of M-Industry Committed to Unlock Impact of the Mineral Act B.E. 2560

April 23, 2018: A concrete discussion between Dr. Uttama Savanayana, Minister of Industry (M-Industry) and Khun Siva Mahasandana, Chairman of Thailand Fellowship of Cement Manufacturers (TFCM)-the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and also Chairman of Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) together with the executive representatives of TFCM and TCMA was organized with strong support of Khun Supant Mongkolsuthree, FTI’s Chairman due to the recent Mineral Act B.E. 2560 created negative impact to the mineral-based industry, particularly unclear procedures and timeline on concession approval to applications which completed their processes since last 7-8 years ago.

Consultation Meeting on MRV GHG Emission Reduction: Cement Industry

March 23, 2018: The tri-parties consulation meeting on MRV GHG emission reduction was organized at ONEP office among TCMA, led by Mr. Yutthapon Jaidee-Chair of Working Committee on Environment, Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) as National Secretariat of Climate Change Coordination, led by Dr. Phirun Saiyasitpanich-Director of Climate Change Management and Coordination Division and Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization, led by Mr. Rongphet Bunchuaidee-Director of Technical Development and Support Office. The meeting agreed in principle to design an appropriate methodology to measure-report-verify GHG emission reduction in cement industry in order to reach the country target as set.
